World Series of Poker is the most popular poker tournament in the whole world and certainly every poker player wants to participate and become the winner. This great event was first played in 1949 and it was a game between two of the best poker players of the time – Nicholas Dandolos and Johnny Moss. At the end of this first WSOP tournament, where the game was No-Limit Texas Holdem poker, Johnny Moss won the $2,000,000 real cash prize. As this event had great success during 1949, 21 years later – in 1970, the World Series of Poker was recreated and made its official debut. For the second time Johnny Moss took part in this tournament and won the title World Champion.
Until 1972 all participants in the World Series of Poker tournament have played No-Limit Texas Holdem and one year later – in 1973, Five Card Stud was added to the main event. During the years many events have been added and removed and in 2006 there will be more than 40 events at the World Series of Poker tournament. This year there will be events as No-Limit, Pot-Limit and Limit Texas Holdem, Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Razz and more. Year after year, more and more poker players take part in the World Series of Poker tournament in their hope to win millions of dollars.
This year World Series of Poker tournament starts on 25 of June 2006 and if you want to be one of the participants you need to practice every day. Practicing will improve your play and you will be more confident of your decisions. You can play live poker with your friends or in a casino, or you can play on the Internet in many online poker rooms. More than 5,000 entrants will take part in the WSOP 2006, so you must play in multi-table poker tournaments. To be ready for the final table, you should take part in some single-table tournaments.
The main event of the World Series of Poker is the No-Limit Texas Holdem tournament and winners at this tournament get the largest prizes. Joseph Hachem won the main event at the World Series of Poker last year. He overcame 5618 poker players and earned $7,5 million dollars. In many online poker rooms you can qualify for the WSOP tournament and it means that you can practice and after that you can qualify for this great tournament from your own home.
